Privacy Policy

The short version: One Good Thing collects nothing. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. What you write is stored only on your own device, encrypted, and the app never transmits it anywhere.

Information we collect

None. One Good Thing has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no backend service. We do not collect, receive, transmit, sell, or share any personal information, because none of it ever reaches us. We cannot read your entries, and we have no way to identify you.

What the app stores on your device

All of the following is kept locally on your device and nowhere else:

The entries you write, and the date each belongs to
Ideas you write yourself, and library ideas you save
The first name or nickname you choose, used only for the daily greeting
Your reminder times and privacy settings

How it is protected

Your entries are stored in a database that is encrypted on your device. The encryption key is held in the operating system's secure storage — the Keychain on iOS, the Keystore on Android — and is marked as device-only, so it is never synced or copied off the device.

You may optionally require Face ID, Touch ID, or your device's biometric unlock to open the app. Biometric checks are performed entirely by your operating system; the app never receives or stores your fingerprint or face data.

Device backups

On Android, the app is excluded from system backup, so its data is not copied to Google Drive or transferred to a new device.

On iOS, your device's own iCloud or computer backup may include the app's encrypted database file. The encryption key is never included in any backup. That data is therefore unreadable to anyone — including us and Apple — without the key, which never leaves your device. We mention this because we would rather be precise than claim more than is true.

A practical consequence: restoring a phone from a backup does not restore your entries. If you are moving to a new device, use the export feature described below.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled locally by your device. They are not sent from a server, and there is no push notification service, device token, or registry. Reminder text is always generic and never contains anything you have written or your name, so nothing personal appears on your lock screen.

Exporting your data

You can export everything to a file at any time from Settings. Where that file goes is entirely your choice and is handled by your device's own sharing features. Once exported, the file is outside the app's protection, and its privacy depends on where you put it.

Deleting your data

"Erase everything" in Settings permanently deletes all entries on the device. Deleting the app removes all of its data as well. Because nothing is stored anywhere else, there is no copy for us to delete and no request you need to make of us.

Third parties

The app contains no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, no crash reporting, and no third-party SDKs that collect data. It makes no network requests.

Children

One Good Thing is suitable for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app changes how information is handled, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date above will change.
